Australian no-code legal automation platform Josef announced that it has partnered with New York University and nonprofit Housing Court Answers to develop an AI assistant for New York City tenants. The AI assistant, Roxanne, aims to help tenants address their housing rights and needs by answering their questions on New York housing laws and regulations.

The announcement of Roxanne’s launch comes roughly a month after Josef closed a quick funding round with contributions from LegalTech Fund, Carthona Capital, and OIF Ventures. Prior to this funding round, in 2022, the startup raised about $3.45 million.

“Renting law and regulations in New York are notoriously complicated and hard to digest, so with Roxanne, we’ve made rental repairs guidance both easy to access and understand,” said Housing Court Answers executive director Jenny Laurie.

“Our mission is to make legal help more accessible,” said Josef COO and co-founder Sam Flynn. “The tool in its current form automatically answers questions about repair issues in New York City, but this is the first topic that we’ve taught it and it will learn more in the very near future.”
